Switch is an initiative to contribute to the solution of the current shortage of IT professionals on the Dutch labour market. Solutions in the direction of making people switch to a job in ICT. This can be from a working situation, for example employees who no longer find satisfaction in their current working environment, and want to make a career switch. But also for switchers (early school-leavers) who are interested in the ICT profession, but because of circumstances they discontinue their studies.
For this group of students Switch offers sound practical training courses, which are completed with an official exam. If you pass this exam, you will receive a in the ICT market recognized certificate (Microsoft or Java Oracle). Furthermore, we bring the students into contact with potential employers for practical assignments during the training. The chance of a job after following this training is very high, because there is a huge shortage of IT staff.
Training and gaining experience
The training program is a mix of classroom lessons, self-study and practical assignments (both individually and as a team) under intensive supervision of experienced trainers. For the self-study activities, Switch provides a fully-equipped practice room (equipped with PC’s) for the course participants. In addition to subject-specific knowledge, attention is also paid to so-called soft skills (working in teams, communication skills, etc.).
After completion of the training, employees will be employed for a specified period at a selected employer via a secondment agreement or fixed-term employment contract to gain experience (training-on-the-job). This practical learning takes place under the expert guidance of a personal coach. After having gained sufficient experience during this secondment period, it is the intention that one will be in permanent employment with the employer.
The employer is expected to continue investing in the knowledge development and further personal development of the course participant. This means that agreements can be made in advance about the career path. For example, at a later stage, the job could be combined with a part-time study via the educational offer for professionals at Fontys Hogeschool ICT, in order to obtain a bachelor's degree or an associate degree.
